About London International Tutors

You are in safe hands!

Since 2009, we have been helping students achieve their academic goals and have a proven track record of students gaining places at leading independent schools and universities. It’s always exciting to hear from our students on results day.

Parents often say we take the stress out of the tutoring process. We like to build close working relationships with our students, their families and our tutors: getting to know you means we can offer the best learning experience and guide you towards your goals.

We are contactable all year round and are happy for you to get in touch at any time to see how we can help. Whether it’s entrance exams to some of the top UK independent schools (such as Eton, St Paul’s, Westminster, Harrow, The King’s School, Canterbury, Sevenoaks, Wycombe Abbey or Charterhouse), ongoing GCSE and A level school studies, or US/UK university entrance advice, our outstanding tutors and management team are on hand to help.

Tuition is available throughout the year (including all school holidays) either face-to-face or online.

"London International Tutors have proven to be extremely valuable in the academic support and development of our children. With a diverse choice of approachable and resourceful tutors, I would not hesitate in recommending their services.

Wendy Layland

Director

Wendy Layland Director

Wendy Layland is the Director and Founder of London International Tutors.

After having worked at a large tutorial college, Wendy launched LIT in 2009 with an ambition to create a bespoke service that would offer students and their families a more personalised and friendly tutorial experience. She takes an active role in every part of the process, from tutor recruitment to main point of contact for parents, students and tutors. Office hours really don’t apply – she knows that sometimes things move quickly.

Wendy is involved in every one of our placements. She likes to speak to parents whenever possible, to learn more about each child’s objectives, their needs, their concerns, and what kind of person/character they are. All of these aspects need careful consideration when deciding which tutor is best suited to which student.

Over the years, she has built up a team of remarkable and loyal tutors, which continues to grow, and by working closely and knowing each of them, has a deep confidence in their competence, aptitude and ability to help children succeed.

James Layland

Our Head Educational Consultant

educational consultant

In 1993, James Layland graduated from Imperial College, London with a first-class degree in Physics. A keen musician, he won the Sir Eric Ash Scholarship to study the flute at the Royal College of Music. He retains strong links with Imperial College and has helped numerous students gain places there (as well as at very many more of the best universities!).

Since leaving Imperial, he has been continually involved in education. After several years teaching Maths and Physics at a private tutorial college in South Kensington, he attained the post of Co-Principal in 2000. Within a year he was Principal. Over the following six years, James took the college from strength to strength in academic results, reputation, size and financial stability.

Throughout his career in education, James’s passion for teaching has helped change the lives of a great many students, from young children to university students to adults returning to education. Teaching Maths and Physics remains his passion and, over the years, he has clocked up around 45,000 hours of tutoring. In addition, he spends a lot of time each year helping students with their applications to universities both here and in the States.

Our Tutors

Our tutors are our greatest asset!

All have excellent academic backgrounds, are experienced and highly qualified. This in itself is not sufficient; they need to be friendly, reliable, and adaptable, with the ability to teach well and to communicate effectively with young people. Our tutors understand that every child is different and we have great confidence in their ability to adapt their teaching techniques, approach, resources and interaction accordingly. Many are full-time professional tutors, others are teachers in schools or lecturers in universities, while many are accomplished in other areas, from investment banking to writers, actors, and scientists. In addition to tutoring, they can mentor and guide your child, helping to inspire, develop confidence and self-belief, improve academic composure and enjoy learning.

Our tutors are carefully chosen and, unlike larger tutorial agencies, we know them all well. We have about 40 tutors who work regularly with us, and our close relationship with them and our clients allows us to fine-tune our service to best suit the needs of each student.
